About the Author
Binyavanga Wainaina was a Kenyan writer, editor, and activist. He was born in 1971 in Nakuru, Kenya. He studied at the University of Zimbabwe and the University of Oxford. He was the founding editor of the literary magazine 'Kwani?'.
Wainaina's work has been published in numerous anthologies and literary magazines. He has also written several novels, including 'Discovering Home' and 'The Beard of an Anonymous Man'.
Wainaina was a vocal critic of the Kenyan government and its treatment of LGBT people. He was also a strong advocate for freedom of speech and expression.
Wainaina died in 2019 at the age of 48.
