After twenty years of living abroad, I returned to the United States a different person. I had left as a young woman, full of idealism and a desire to see the world. I returned as a middle-aged woman, with a wealth of experiences and a more nuanced understanding of the world.

My time away had given me a unique perspective on my home country. I had seen how other countries functioned, and I had come to appreciate the many things that make America great. I was also aware of the challenges that America faces, and I was determined to do my part to make a difference.

This book is a record of my experiences of returning to America after twenty years away. It is a memoir of culture shock, identity, and change. It is also a love letter to my country, and a call to action for all Americans to work together to build a better future.

Chapter 1: Culture Shock

The most striking thing about returning to America after twenty years away was the culture shock. I had been living in a small town in France, where life was slow-paced and the people were friendly and welcoming. I returned to a large city in the United States, where life was fast-paced and the people were more reserved.

I was also surprised by how much America had changed in twenty years. The country had become more diverse, and there was a greater awareness of social and environmental issues. I was heartened by these changes, but I was also concerned about the growing political polarization and the widening gap between rich and poor.

Chapter 2: Identity

Returning to America after twenty years away also forced me to confront my own identity. I had always thought of myself as an American, but I realized that I had changed in many ways during my time abroad. I had adopted some of the customs and values of the countries where I had lived, and I had a different perspective on my own country.

I was no longer the same person who had left America twenty years earlier. I was a more complex and nuanced person, with a deeper understanding of the world and my place in it.

Chapter 3: Change

America has changed a lot in twenty years, but it is still the same country at its core. It is a country of immigrants, a country of opportunity, and a country of hope.

I am proud to be an American, and I am committed to working to make my country a better place. I believe that America is the greatest country on earth, and I am determined to do my part to ensure that it remains that way.

Returning to America after twenty years away was a transformative experience. It was a journey of rediscovery and reflection, a journey that led me to a deeper understanding of myself, my country, and the world.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have lived abroad, and I am grateful to have returned to America. I am more committed than ever to making a difference in the world, and I believe that America is the best place to do that.

Thank you for reading.
