Jackie Robinson was an ordinary man who did something extraordinary. He broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball in 1947, and his courage and determination changed the world.

Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia, in 1919. He was the son of sharecroppers, and he grew up in poverty. Despite the challenges he faced, Robinson was a talented athlete. He excelled in baseball, football, basketball, and track and field.

After graduating from high school, Robinson attended UCLA. He was a star athlete at UCLA, and he also became involved in the civil rights movement. Robinson was outraged by the discrimination that African Americans faced in the United States. He joined the NAACP, and he spoke out against segregation and racism.

In 1945, Robinson signed a contract with the Montreal Royals, a minor league baseball team. He had a successful season with the Royals, and in 1947, he was called up to the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson's debut with the Dodgers was a historic moment. He was the first African American to play in Major League Baseball since the 1880s.

Robinson faced racism and discrimination from both fans and opposing players. He was called names, threatened, and even assaulted. But Robinson never gave up. He continued to play hard, and he helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 1955.

Robinson's courage and determination inspired other African Americans to break down barriers in all areas of life. He showed the world that anything is possible if you have the courage to stand up for what you believe in.

Jackie Robinson died in 1972. He was 53 years old. But his legacy continues to live on. He is remembered as one of the most important figures in American history.
